    Kitesurfing & Windsurfing
    Le Morne, Pointe d'Esny

    Kitesurfing & Windsurfing

Le Morne on the southwest coast is globally renowned as one of the best kitesurfing destinations in the world. The flat lagoon with consistent trade winds from May to November offers ideal conditions for beginners and professionals alike. The 'One Eye' wave off Le Morne is considered by experts as one of the best surf waves in the Indian Ocean. Numerous kite schools offer courses in multiple languages, and equipment can be rented on-site. Pointe d'Esny on the east coast and Anse La Raie in the north are also popular spots with varying wind conditions. The best season runs from May to November when trade winds blow consistently from the southeast. Beginners benefit from the flat lagoons, while advanced riders can show their skills in the wave zones outside the reefs.

    Snorkeling & Diving

Mauritius offers some of the most beautiful underwater worlds in the Indian Ocean. Blue Bay in the southeast is a protected marine reserve with over 50 coral species and hundreds of fish species – ideal for snorkeling right from the beach. For certified divers, the dive sites off Flic en Flac are legendary: here you can observe giant moray eels, eagle rays, and with some luck, even dolphins and sharks. The Cathedral, a famous dive spot, is an underwater cave where light rays enter like through church windows. Best visibility is from October to December. Trou aux Biches in the north is considered a perfect beginner spot with gently sloping sandy bottom and colorful reef fish. Experienced divers are drawn to the wrecks off the west coast or shark dives at Shark Point.

    Catamaran & Boat Tours

A catamaran cruise is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Mauritius. The most popular tours head to Île aux Cerfs on the east coast or to the northern islands Île Plate and Île Gabriel. Along the way, you can snorkel, watch dolphins, and enjoy a BBQ lunch on board – traditionally featuring fresh fish, chicken, and Mauritian salads. Private charter boats offer romantic sunset cruises, while larger catamarans host sociable group excursions with music and rum punch. Early morning dolphin watching tours depart from the west coast near Tamarin, where spinner dolphins can be found in large groups. Bookings are available at all hotels and local operators – early reservation is recommended during peak season.

    Hiking & Trekking
    Black River Gorges, Le Morne

    Hiking & Trekking

The Black River Gorges National Park in the southwest covers 2% of the island's surface and offers over 60 kilometers of marked trails through pristine rainforest. Climbing Le Morne Brabant (556m) is a half-day excursion with breathtaking views of the lagoon and offers insights into the history of escaped slaves who hid here. The ascent of Le Pouce (812m), the island's third-highest mountain, provides panoramic views of Port Louis and the Moka mountain range. For less demanding tours, the trails around Chamarel Waterfall or the Seven Colored Earth are ideal. The best hiking season is the dry season from May to November. Sturdy footwear, sun protection, and plenty of water are essential – the tropical heat should not be underestimated.
